Children who are starting out in cricket play Kwik Cricket and Pairs Cricket.
In these formats of the game, batters are not actually "out" when a bowler takes their wicket. Instead, they will have some runs deducted from their score (usually 5 or 6 runs).
The name of the official who makes judgements about whether a batter is out or not is called an UMPIRE. The fielding team traditionally appeal to the umpire by saying "howzat" if they think they have got a batter out.
Batters can usually only be bowled, caught out, run out or stumped in Kwik Cricket and Pairs Cricket.
Each week our coaches identify a PLAYER OF THE WEEK from the 4,000+ children we work with, as a recognition of their talent, efforts or improvement.
This week's PLAYER OF THE WEEK Award goes to Ali from King Solomon Academy in Marylebone, Westminster.
Despite never having played before, Ali has developed an infectious enthusiasm for cricket, supporting coaches & classmates alike.
